Celina ISD Offers Unique Career-Focused Education Opportunities
An exemplary Texas school district, Celina ISD showcases top-performing schools with outstanding academic and extracurricular programs. The district recently expanded its Career and Technical Education program to include new opportunities for high school students to get real-world experience in a diverse array of career fields.
New for the 2021-2022 school year, the district introduced a practicum in health science credit that gives Celina High School seniors the opportunity to work with the Celina Fire Department and other local businesses like Celina Family Practice, Celina Drug and Peak Performance.
Health science students receive training and guidance from the professionals and get hands-on experience in one of the nation’s most in-demand career fields.
“To pursue a career in the healthcare industry, students should learn to reason, think critically, make decisions, solve problems, and communicate effectively,” Celina ISD states in its program course guide.
“Students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences such as career and technical student organizations and other leadership or extracurricular organizations.”
The health science program is part of Celina ISD’s Career and Technical Education program, which aims to develop “future-ready” students. CTE has become a big trend in high school education as it gives students the ability to pursue courses and certifications in career fields of their choosing.
Celina’s ISD CTE program strives to “give students the tools necessary to compete in high-demand, high-wage and highly-skilled occupations in a global workforce and post-secondary education.”
CTE programs of study include:
- Applied Ag Engineering
- Animal Science
- Business Management/Marketing and Sales
- Programming and Software Development
- Construction Management/Inspection
- Engineering
- Family Community Service
- Digital Communications
- Healthcare Therapeutic
- Law Enforcement
